Award-winning designer Kimberly Paulus, owner and principal designer of Monarch Designs, recently attended the renowned High Point Market in North Carolina with fellow designers from across the country. Twice each year, the design industry gathers at High Point to preview the newest furniture, fabrics, lighting, and home décor collections — setting the tone for design trends in the year ahead.

During the event, Kimberly explored hundreds of showrooms, meeting with artisans and manufacturers to discover what’s next in luxury interiors. From custom upholstery and handcrafted casegoods to statement lighting and emerging color palettes, she gained firsthand insight into how evolving styles and innovations can enhance her clients’ homes.

When you have a room you don’t know what to do with

Sometimes, a design project starts with a brainstorming session. “We’ll have people call us and say, ‘We just don’t use this room at all, and we don’t know what to do with it,’” says Kimberly Paulus, owner of Sienna, Texas-based Monarch Designs.

In this particular case, she started with a freewheeling interview about what the family liked to do, what activities they enjoyed that weren’t accommodated by existing rooms. For this family with two daughters—one in high school and the other in college—the answer turned out to be “hang out and drink coffee.” So Paulus turned their unused formal dining room into a European-inspired coffee bar and “internet café.” more>>

Interior designer Kimberly Paulus of Monarch Designs has once again demonstrated her exceptional talent and eye for sophisticated, functional design. At the most recent Annual Dream Room Competition hosted by Decorating Den Interiors, Kimberly earned top honors in multiple categories, continuing a streak of award-winning success.

She was awarded First Place in the Home Office category, where her winning design showcased a perfect blend of elegance and productivity. Her ability to create serene, inspiring workspaces captured the attention of judges and peers alike, winning her Second Place in the People’s Choice – judged by the general public.

Kimberly also took home Third Place in the Bathroom category, recognized for her striking design that combined modern luxury with tranquil comfort. In the Miscellaneous category, she earned Third Place once more for an extraordinary custom walk-in closet that elevates everyday organization into a statement of style.

These new accolades build on Kimberly’s impressive track record, following multiple wins in the 2024 Dream Room Competition. With each award, Monarch Designs continues to set the standard for creative excellence and personalized luxury in interiors.

The evening was a perfect blend of creativity and camaraderie, offering guests the opportunity to explore the world of interior design while enjoying delicious sangria in a lively and welcoming atmosphere.

The event brought together design enthusiasts, homeowners, and community members for an interactive and inspiring experience. Guests sipped on handcrafted sangrias while learning practical and stylish design tips tailored to elevate their living spaces. From color selection to furniture arrangement, our team shared expert insights to help attendees create beautiful, functional, and personalized interiors.
